We are thrilled to welcome you as you prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Baptism for your child. This beautiful sacrament marks the beginning of your child’s journey of faith, and we are honored to accompany your family.
Please download and complete the Baptism Registration Form. Once completed, you may:
Email it to [email protected]
Or bring it to the Parish Office in person.
One of our priests—Fr. Owen or Fr. Jose—will contact you to schedule a time to meet. This personal meeting is a wonderful opportunity for us to get to know you and answer any questions you may have.
The parish will provide a Baptismal bib and candle for your child. As is our tradition, we kindly invite you to make a freewill offering to God for the gift of your child.
If this is your first child being baptized, attendance at a Baptismal Preparation Class is required. This class will help you understand the meaning of the sacrament and your responsibility to raise your child in the Catholic faith.
Please contact the Parish Office at (973) 377-4000 ext. 106 to schedule your baptism and class.
Baptisms are typically celebrated:
Following the 12:00 PM Sunday Mass (approximately 1:15 PM)
During a scheduled Mass, if desired
During July and August at 12:30 PM
Godparents play a vital role in your child’s spiritual life. Please consider the following requirements:
Must be at least 16 years old
Have received the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation in the Catholic Church
At least one godparent must be a practicing Catholic, attending Mass regularly and living according to the faith
If godparents are not registered parishioners of St. Vincent Martyr, they must request a Godparent/Sponsor Form from their home parish. This form confirms they are members in good standing and must be submitted to us at least two weeks prior to the Baptism.
To serve as a godparent, one must be a fully initiated Catholic—baptized, confirmed, and regularly practicing the faith.
While only one Catholic godparent is required, a Protestant Christian friend may serve as a Christian Witness alongside a Catholic godparent.
Please note:
Non-baptized individuals are not eligible to serve as godparents or Christian witnesses.
Those who have not completed their sacraments (such as First Communion or Confirmation) may not serve as godparents at this time.
If you have any questions or special circumstances, please speak with one of our priests before making arrangements.
Adults who are not baptized, are baptized in another Christian tradition, or are Catholic but have not received First Communion and/or Confirmation are warmly invited to join our Order of Christian Initiation for Adults (OCIA) program.
Through periods of reflection, study, and group discussion, participants will grow in understanding of the Catholic faith and be prepared to receive the Sacraments of Baptism, Eucharist, and Confirmation as needed.
Our next OCIA group begins in September. Come discover the beauty of the Catholic faith and take the next step in your spiritual journey.
Please visit our OCIA page or contact the Faith Formation Office at (973) 377-4000 ext. 251to learn more.
